The Nurse Mentoring & Test Prep Program is a free service that provides educational assistance, mentoring and motivational support to help Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) students, graduates, and nursing assistants enter rewarding health careers. Students are helped with course work, study habits and preparation for specific courses and tests. These intensive, hands-on, individualized and group-tutoring sessions help keep students in school until graduation and provide instructional and personal support throughout preparation for the state examination. Tutoring is offered entirely by volunteer registered nurses.
Ms. Catherine Crumbs is a dedicated community servant who has been the chief volunteer in support of the Nurse Tutorial Program since 1977, and she is proud of the high success rate of students who pass the Florida State Licensure Board Examination. She volunteers an average of 200 hours each year tutoring students and was recently inducted into the National Urban League‘s prestigious "Quarter Century Club" at the 2013 Equal Opportunity Day Gala. Members of this elite group have a minimum of 25 years of service to the Urban League Movement.
One of the many former students who still maintain daily contact with Ms. Crumbs is Latina Williams, now an Assistant Professor of Nursing at South University in Tampa, working toward her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). She is a shining example of the strength and value of the PCUL Nurse Mentoring & Test Prep Program.
